Thought is a powerful gift.

But too often, we squander it.

We worry about things we can’t control. We wish away things we can. And we drown out our thoughts with doomscrolling and binge watching.

Instead, we need to harness the power of thought to move us closer to what we truly want.

The book Think and Grow Rich makes a bold claim:

What you think about most directly shapes your ability to achieve it.

The idea is simple but profound: focus deeply on your desires, and they seep into your subconscious. That subconscious, in turn, guides your actions—pushing you to make decisions that bring those desires to life.

And honestly, I don’t think the book could be more right.

I see it in the small things every day:

The more I think about snacks, the more I eat.

The more I think about TV shows, the more I watch.

The more I think about exercising, the more I hit the gym.

But I’ve also seen it play out over years.

When I started college, I set one clear goal: graduate with a perfect GPA. From day one, it lived in my mind. And because it was always there, the right choices became obvious: finish the assignment of go out? Study or go to bed early?

Every small decision either pulled me closer to my goal or pushed me away. With the goal constantly top of mind, I chose the right path—and in the end, I achieved it.

That’s the power of thought.

Keep your goals front and center. Let them guide your choices. With time, these choices stack up. They become habits. They become who you are.

And eventually, your mind and body will work together to carry you towards the life you’ve been imaging all along.

🌱 This week’s step worth taking

Pick one goal you want to move toward this week.

Say it out loud each morning and night. Keep it in mind when making choices.

At the end of the week, ask yourself: did this focus move me closer?

I would argue the tactics discussed in the book can apply to any goal, not just financial ones.

🔄 Misstep of the week

For the past two weeks, my to-do list has only grown longer.

Every time I try to check something off, I get stuck staring at the size of the list itself. I waste time deciding what to do, get overwhelmed, and end up doing nothing.

What I need to remember is the very premise of this newsletter: one step at a time. Small daily actions add up—and that’s how big results are built.

🙌 Step Spotlight

Communication is the foundation of every strong relationship.

Scott and Taryn, who recently got married (CONGRATS 🥳🎉👏), have made it a priority to keep that foundation strong.

Each week, they set aside time for a check-in—talking through how things are going, sharing goals, and supporting each other in working toward them.

It’s a simple habit, but a powerful one. Their commitment to open, consistent communication is something we could all learn from.
